Be Prepared for Questions at Your Final Hearing

Your final immigration court hearing is one of the most important stages in your case — it’s where the judge will evaluate your testimony, evidence, and overall credibility. To present your case effectively, you must know every detail of what has been submitted on your behalf.

Review Your Case File Thoroughly

Before your final hearing, take time to carefully review your entire case file. Do not attend the hearing without understanding what has been filed in your name.

For example:

  • If you submitted a witness statement, the judge may ask you specific questions about it.

  • If you provided a doctor’s report, be ready to explain why you visited the doctor and how it relates to your case.

  • If your application includes country condition reports or personal declarations, review them in detail so your answers are consistent.

Being familiar with your file helps you stay calm, confident, and consistent under questioning from both the immigration judge and the government attorney (DHS prosecutor).

Confidence and Honesty Matter

Answer all questions truthfully and directly. If you don’t remember something, it’s better to say you don’t recall than to guess. Consistency between your testimony and your written submissions can make a strong difference in how the judge perceives your credibility.
