Requesting a Video Hearing in Immigration Court

Requesting a Video Hearing in Immigration Court

Attending an in-person hearing in immigration court can be intimidating. Fortunately, there is an option to request appearing virtually instead of in person.

Filing a Motion for Video Appearance

You or your attorney may file a motion for a video (Webex) hearing. This motion should include the reasons why an online hearing is appropriate in your case.

What to Include in Your Request

When requesting a video hearing, provide relevant personal reasons, such as:

  • Your current location – if travel is difficult or costly

  • Medical conditions – if health issues make in-person attendance risky

  • Judicial efficiency or practical concerns – if appearing virtually would make the process smoother and more efficient

Judge’s Decision

After reviewing your motion and supporting reasons, the immigration judge will decide whether to grant the request for an online hearing. Approval is not automatic, so presenting clear, valid justifications is important.
