Update Your Address Every Time

If you move, even a short distance, you must update your address with USCIS and, if applicable, the immigration court (EOIR). Failing to do so can cost you your entire case. Important notices — biometrics appointments, interview dates, hearing notices, and deadlines — are sent to the address on file. If they go to the wrong place, you may never know until it’s too late.

Even if you have an attorney who receives copies, you are still responsible for keeping your own address updated. Immigration agencies don’t assume your lawyer will fix it for you. A missing notice can lead to denied applications or even removal orders.

A simple address change takes minutes. Ignoring it can trigger disasters that take years to undo.

Summary

Keep your address updated with USCIS and the immigration court to avoid missing important notices.
